Helpfie Smart First Aid collaborated with the Quincy Fire Department, City of Quincy, Brewster Ambulance and the PulsePoint Foundation to kick off a 6 week crowdsourcing campaign using social media, web outreach, public service announcements (PSAs), postcard distributions and poster displays to request members of the public to share photos and location information of automated external defibrillators (AED) in Quincy, MA for a chance to win an Apple Watch. We are happy to report that the “Spot an AED contest” generated an impressive response of about 200 crowdsourced AED submissions in Quincy, MA. These AEDs are now available for the Quincy Fire Department and Brewster Ambulance to verify. In addition to helping us build an AED registry that supports easy public access to defibrillators, the AED contest has made it possible for the City of Quincy to apply for the MA Department of Public Health and the American Heart Association’s HEARTsafe community designation.

We wish to thank all participants for sharing AED information and an honorable mention goes out to the following participants: Jill Stone, Alice Gatua and Michael Kwang for each contributing over a dozen AEDs. Congratulations to the “Spot an AED Contest,” Apple Watch grand prize winner, Kristian Fadrigalan for submitting over two dozen AEDs. The American Heart Association estimates that immediate cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and early defibrillation with an AED can more than double a victim’s chance of survival.
